Y is for Yellow

Have you ever had something taken away from you undeservedly?

And then, have you just "let it go"?

We all have. And when we just "let it go" we make society a worse place for everybody else. Our cowardice, our yellow belly, our weakness to fight reinforces a social mentality of taking undeservedly.

This is wrong.

Last night at the movies, a bunch of my friends had reserved seats at the movies. A group of ten of us and its understandable we might just want to sit all together. Two beefcake bogans in singlets and tattoos were sitting right in the middle of our reserved seats.

There were two options which confronted me:

1. Leave them be.
2. Kick up a fuss.

If you've been a reader long enough or known me for more than 30 minutes, you can guess what I did.

I kicked up a fuss. I am a firm believer in being polite, chilvaric and a defender of the common good. I've said it once and I'll say it again.

Those seats were rightfully MINE. I paid $9 for them and I wanted to sit in them with my friends. In our capitalist society, I was right. And they were wrong. The fuss generated by my friends and I got the ENTIRE row to move along. We sat down comfortably and enjoyed our movie.

Now rewind back a little. Some of my other friends saw the argument which was brewing and they blanched at the confrontation. I'm sorry friends but when you hang with me, confrontation follows. Some of the others went to find other seats.

This is wrong.

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. -Edmund Burke

And those other friends let evil triumph. They were good men too. I personally know that they are chivalric and honorable. But they let evil win and reinforced a mentality of taking undeservedly.

Don't ever be yellow friends. Believe in what is yours rightfully. You make society a better place for everyone when you fight for what is right.

Oh...and Watchmen was awesome.

Alan, I have kicked people from reserved seating twice now. Because I have the same belief system as you. If I paid for it and it has a number- bitch that seat is mine.
